Ein Außerirdischer stürzt mit seinem Shuttle auf der Erde ab und tötet Menschen - ENDE ;-)

Im groben wars das wirklich. Er ist so unfassbar billig und trashig gemacht, dass er unfreiwillig komisch wirkt. Da hat man nach guter alter Godzilla Manier einfach nen Typen in ein Gummikostüm gesteckt und "Fass!" gesagt. Dann schießt der mit seiner Lazerpistole auf Leute, die sich nach einem Treffer direkt in Luft auflösen. Story, Effekte, Maske all das kürt diesen Film zum schlechtesten Machwerk, dass ich je sah. Jedoch seh ich ihn mir immer wieder gerne an. Er besitzt diesen unverwechselbaren 80s Horror Charme, von denen die altgedienten Fans dieses Genres immer schwärmen. Solche Streifen haben immer eine gewisse "wohlige wärme". Eben WEIL sie so schlecht gemacht sind. Ich hab ihn als Rip meiner uralten VHS Kaufkassette und würde mir vielleicht sogar diese DVD noch mal kaufen. Aber 22€ sind da natürlich WUCHER.

「悪魔の毒々シリーズ」で有名なトロマが配給したSFホラーの怪作が、Blu-rayで復活しました。
アメリカの田舎町に1隻の宇宙船が不時着。乗っていた不気味なインベーダーが、あらゆる物体を一瞬で消滅させてしまう光線銃をぶっ放して、次々と人を殺します。
このインベーダー、人体でも自動車でも一瞬で消滅させられる光線銃という物凄い武器を持っているのに、殺し方に一貫性がなく、何故か人の臓物を引きずり出したり、人の首をもぎ取って殺したりします（スプラッター映画の殺人鬼とあんまり変わらない殺し方です）。
映画の方も、前半はインベーダーの無差別攻撃でなかなか盛り上がりますが、中盤以降はインベーダーとは無関係な殺人事件が起きたり、インベーダーそっちのけの男女関係が展開されたりします。
B級映画が好きな人なら一見の価値があります。リージョンフリーのBlu-rayとDVDのセット。新規収録の音声解説、インタビュー、予告編など映像特典も満載です。

"Nightbeast" (1982) was made for a miniscule $14,000 by infamous writer & director Don Dohler. The plot involves an alien space craft which crash lands on Earth in a rural small town. The alien pilot inside goes on a rampage and the residents of the town attempt to stop it. Pretty simple but it gets the job done. The acting is wooden but fits the low budget drive in feel. The gore effects are pretty decent considering how extremely small the budget was. The look of the murderous alien is pretty goofy and reminded me of Rawhead Rex in the way the face is stuck in a static expression. For fans of drive-in schlock, it is great for a ton of laughs.

The film was originally released on DVD by Troma way back in 2004 featuring a full frame 1.33:1 transfer (which is the film's intended aspect ratio) that was murky and dark. There were some cool extras though including a commentary track.

Vinegar Syndrome gave the film its blu-ray debut back in 2019 featuring a 2K scan of the original 16mm negative in a 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio. This release received terrific reviews for both the quality of the transfer and extras.

Troma in 2021 would re-release "Nightbeast" on blu-ray. The Troma disc does not feature the film in its intended 1.33:1 aspect ratio but crops it instead to 1.78:1 widescreen. There are some points where the film seems cramped on the top and bottom of the frame but generally it did not seem that any important information was lost but I wish that Troma would have kept this release full frame since their prior DVD was. There is nothing mentioned on the case where this transfer derives from but overall everything looks decent. The film is presented utilizing the AVC codec at a rock solid bit rate usually staying in the low to mid 20. The film was shot using a lot of soft focus and fog filters so that does impact the amount of detail visible at many points throughout. I do not have the Vinegar Syndrome disc on hand to compare but if it is a safe bet that the picture quality surpasses the Troma release.

Sound is presented in regular 2.0 channel DVD quality. This continues Troma's trend of refusing to put lossless audio on their blu-ray releases. All things considered though I thought it sounded fine. No English subtitles are included.

- Special intro with Lloyd Kaufman (2 min. 7 sec.)
- Original DVD intro (2 min. 18 sec.)
- Audio commentary with director Don Dohler and star George Stover
- Outakes & bloopers (6 min. 40 sec.)
- Crashing the set with John Ellis (14 min. 30 sec.)
- Shooting the Nightbeast with Richard Geiwitz (18 min. 54 sec.)
- Nightbeast returns with the cast & crew (24 min. 58 sec.)
- Visual FX gallery (4 min. 16 sec.)
- Original theatrical trailer (1 min. 57 sec.)

Overall this is a nice blu-ray release of "Nightbeast" by Troma notwithstanding the cropping of the movie to widescreen. The Vinegar Syndrome release does feature an additional interview as well as presenting the film in its 1.33:1 intended aspect ratio but runs about 10 dollars more than the Troma release. If you don't mind the cropping then the Troma disc is pretty decent with nice extras though if you already have the Vinegar Syndrome disc there is absolutely no reason to get the Troma re-release. Due to the cropping, I will give the Troma disc 4 stars out of 5.

This one was cheap. It was ridiculous. It had stupid characters and the monster looks kind of goofy. But none of that really matters as "Nightbeast" turned out to be such a spellbinding joyride of a movie that you just cant help but love it!

This is low budget horror/sci-fi as it should be. Fun, wacky, violent and full of heart. This is really a awesome film for those who enjoy the genre. Laser guns, guts'n gore and a monster from outer space who kills everything walking on two leggs. Even children get a little taste of the laser gun in this one.

Right from the get go the action unfolds at a furious pace. Lasers, lasers, lasers! The alien starts a full on war against humanity the second he walks outside of his spaceship. The bodycount is insane as the local police tries to stop the raging beast from wreacking havoc in the small farmer comunity of rural baltimore.

This is a fast moving little pearl of b-movie madness that everyone should give a chance. Get this exeptional disc from Troma and enjoy one of the forgotten gems of independent cinema today.
