The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

Although Sherlock Holmes is very much a British character, being a fictional detective operating in Victorian England from his modest residence at 221B Baker Street in London, this television series is a 1954 American made series filmed in Paris! It does, however, star Ronald Howard (the son of legendary actor Lesley Howard) as Sherlock Holmes, with Howard-Marion Crawford as his trusty side-kick Dr Watson (as an aside, Crawford had appeared as Holmes in 1948 in a radio adaptation, making him one of the very few actors to have portrayed both Holmes and Watson!). This set contains all 39 episodes made, many of which were directed by Steve Previn, the brother of composer Andre Previn, with most of the episodes taking plot storylines from the original books and short stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
