Michael and Joey are excited. about finishing the first issue of their new magazine. Karen then tells them that their magazine is not "hot" enough. She wants hotter articles about people currently in the news. Michael rebels against Karen's new ideas, but she doesn't listen to him. Meanwhile, Shelby once more tells Nicole that boys won't like her if she continues in her advanced English class. Nicole doesn't believe her until she hears Michael ranting about Karen. Nicole brings home the results of a flunked English test and asks for her dads to sign a release to allow her to return to the regular English class. Joey says no, but Michael tells Nicole to think it over and then make up her own mind. Nicole definitely wants out of the advanced English class. Ordered by Karen's boss to get to know Karen better, Michael meets her at Klawicki's. Karen and Michael try to talk about something other than work. They discuss Nicole, but Michael gets offended and storms out when Karen says he made a mistake in letting her go back to her regular class. Joey has finally figured out why Nicole wants to be in the regular English class. Joey tells Michael. Michael tells Nicole that he likes smart women and even admits he respects Karen. Michael makes a deal with Nicole. If she returns to the advanced class, he will make up with Karen. Nicole accepts.
