Beim WM-Qualifikationsspiel im Jahr 2001 verliert die amerikanisch-samoanische Mannschaft gegen Australien mit 0:31 Toren. Seit dieser höchsten Niederlage in der internationalen Fußballgeschichte gilt Amerikanisch-Samoa offiziell als "schlechtestes Fußballteam der Welt", das in 17 Jahren kein einziges Spiel gewonnen hat. Dennoch stellen sich die Nationalspieler im Jahr 2013 erneut der Herausforderung, sich für die WM zu qualifizieren. Für den erneuten Start bei einem WM-Qualifikationsspiel soll der US-Profi-Trainer Thomas Rongen die konditionsschwachen Amateure diesmal in wenigen Wochen zur Höchstform treiben. Diese Trainingsphase ist nicht nur für die Spieler, sondern auch für den Trainer eine emotionale und sportliche Achterbahnfahrt. Thomas Rongen stellt verblüfft fest, dass die ehrgeizige Mannschaft nicht wie andere an Millionengagen oder ausverkaufte Stadien denkt, sondern an den oft verloren gegangenen Grundgedanken des Fußballs: den Ball, den Teamgeist und das nächste Spiel.

Ein einziger Sieg wäre für diese bunt gemischte Gruppe bereits wie ein Weltmeisterschaftstitel. Daher nutzt sie jede freie Minute, um sich für das wichtige Spiel vorzubereiten und sich ihre Würde zurückzuholen.
