Filme wie "Reservoir Dog" oder "Batman" sind für die meisten Menschen reine Unterhaltung und Zeitvertreib. Für sechs Brüder und deren Schwester jedoch sind diese und 5.000 weitere Filme mehr als 15 Jahre lang der einzige Bezug zur Außenwelt. Aus religiösen Gründen und Angst davor, dass der sozial schwache Wohnort die Kinder verderben könnte, verbringt die Familie bis auf dringende Ausnahmen und Arztbesuche die gesamte Zeit eingeschlossen in ihrer Sozialwohnung. Den sieben Kindern, die von ihrer Mutter zu Hause unterrichtet werden, bleibt nur der Blick aus dem Fenster oder der Griff zu DVDs, die der Vater aus der Bibliothek mitbringt. Die Sehnsucht nach Freiheit bewegt die Kinder des außergewöhnlichen Paares schließlich im Teenageralter dazu, sich für Ausflüge aus dem Haus zu stehlen. Zaghaft erkunden sie, wie sich die echte Welt anfühlt.
