Johnny, Dick, and Dave head to central Nevada to conquer the most daunting desert stretch of the Old Pony Express route, and to make their epic trek even more challenging, they're doing it on bicycles they cobble together themselves.
Just like the prospectors before them, Dave, Dick and Johnny will have to survive these hills with only a hand full of tools, their skills, and their entrepernuerial spirit.
Using a pan, the guys split up on the creek and start with some simple placer mining; putting sediment in the pan and allowing the heavy gold to sink to the bottom while the lighter sediments of no value floats to the top.
Survivalist Dave Canterbury, Engineer Dick Strawbridge and Contractor Johnny Littlefield discuss their next challenge: to build an old school logging camp.
Home builder and jack-of-all trades Johnny Littlefield is taking survival expert Dave Canterbury and engineer and former military colonel Dick Strawbridge on a 25-mile hike through the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts. Starting at the oldest hardware store in America, the guys have five minutes to grab whatever tools they can for their trek. Once they’re geared up, they set off along an unmarked, un-trailed wilderness where they have to rely on their skills, improvised tool kits and grit to get them up, over and down everything from steep cliffs to winding rivers.
Dave challenges Johnny and Dick to go car-camping in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Canterbury-style. Starting at a junkyard, they each select a vehicle to drive through the logging roads, staying at three different campsites over three nights and ending at the northernmost tip of Lake Superior. Using only their cars and a few demolition tools, the guys must take whatever they can find from their vehicles to use as camping resources for each night on the road.
Homebuilder and jack-of-all-trades Johnny Littlefield is flipping the standard survival trek on its head with a 50-mile hike through the most densely populated state in America: New Jersey.
You’re stranded on a deserted island and you can only have three items. Can you survive? On this episode of Dirty Rotten Survival, Dick is bringing the guys to an island buried deep into Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands, part of the largest expanse of mangrove forests in North America.
