  • Koi Paradis
Greg, Ed, Brian and Chris work to install a giant pond in Tony and Shari Romano's backyard. Their koi have grown obese from the incorrect diet that Tony and Shari have fed them, so Greg and the crew need to design the perfect backyard habitat with a koi treadmill so these fish can lose their belly fat. Meanwhile, a new client calls Greg to fix her current pond because it's not deep enough to support a certain breed of fish that she is hoping to buy for her children.

Ed talks about the initial concept to make this pond become a reality, "We are going to take this blank canvas add a 4 foot tall waterfall, running into a 15 foot stream, emptying into a 10 foot pond. Then we will bring in koi fish, turtles and a salamander to create an entire ecosystem that will serve as an outdoor classroom."

Ed explains that the healing pond is not just for looks, "One of the most important elements of the healing garden is not just the serenity of the pond and the beauty, but it actually has a function."

  • Wasser für die Wölfe
Sunny is very happy with the way the new bird habitat turned out, "I think one of the really nice things about this redesign is that it gives the visitors an opportunity to see the birds a little bit closer. There isn't that hidden space behind the waterfall like there was with that old water feature, so, people can really see them up close."

Ed is happy with the finished product and the fact that he got to build the pond with the help of his son, Austin, "You know, working with Austin on this project is a blast. He's helped me out on various projects over the years, so it's always been in his blood."

  • Schildkröten-Alarm
Ed Beaulieu pushing a wheelbarrow at the Berg residence. He's moving the materials to the site of the new pond, "The type of rock that we're using on this project is a beautiful sandstone; it's out of Tennessee. The nice thing about sandstone is it absorbs moisture, so that allows all these mosses, we have lichens, all that growth to happen on that type of rock."

  • Felsen müssen sein
One good way to protect fish in a pond from cranes and herons is to have a deeper pond, with rocks under which the fish can hide. Swans are also good protection from predatory birds as they will not harm the fish, but allow no other birds in the area.

  • Wasser für die Wölfe
Ed's take on the new bird pond, "When we started this project, the concrete fountain just dominated this space. The new water feature is much lower to the ground, it has shallow areas that are more inviting for the birds."

Greg describes why this type of turtle is best for this pond. "Yellow-bellied sliders are the perfect native turtle to build our outdoor classroom around because they thrive in slow moving rivers, swamps, and marshes, which is what our habitat will replicate."
