Investigators from Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council search the runway at Taipei's Airport for clues to determine the cause of the crash of a Boeing 747-412 that lost control while taking off during a violent typhoon on October 31, 2000. The plane was destroyed and 83 people were killed in the accident. The pilots reported that they collided with something on the runway, now investigators have to figure out what they hit.

Flying thousands of feet above Alaska, Wendy Kroon (played by Lindsey Fraiser) must climb over a hole in the cabin floor to reach the back of the plane. With help from a commercial fisherman (played by Bill Yack) she climbs over seats to avoid the hole, which was made when a propeller came loose and slammed into the Lockheed Elektra's underbelly. The hole has pinned vital flight controls, making it nearly impossible to control the plane enough to execute a landing. Kroon must prepare passengers for an emergency landing.
