Amy Winehouse: Sie ist bekannt als die Beehive-Ikone mit der unvergleichlichen Soulstimme, die mit ihren persönlichen Texten Millionen Menschen bewegte - und sechs Grammys mit nach Hause nahm. Gleichzeitig bestimmten ihre Drogenexzesse die Schlagzeilen weit über Englands Grenzen hinaus. Am 23. Juli 2011 musste sie viel zu früh die Bühne des Lebens verlassen. Der Dokumentarfilm "Amy" von Regisseur Asif Kapadia erzählt mit großer Sensibilität die Geschichte einer Ausnahmekünstlerin, geprägt von einer unendlichen Leidenschaft für die Musik, viel Humor und ihrem ganz eigenen Kopf. Aber auch Unsicherheiten, Zwänge und ein unersättliches Verlangen, geliebt zu werden, waren für sie bezeichnend. Der Dokumentarfilm zeigt einen fröhlichen Teenager: die junge Sängerin, die ihre musikalische Heimat auf kleinen Festivals und in Independent-Clubs findet. Er begleitet sie weiter durch die Zeit des plötzlichen Ruhms, der großen Shows und Duette unter anderem mit Jazz-Legende Tony Bennett - und die Versuche, wieder zu sich zu finden. Dabei ist "Amy" so ehrlich, authentisch und überraschend wie seine Protagonistin selbst. Kapadia erhielt Zugang zu bisher unveröffentlichtem Material und gewährt Einblicke in persönliche Videos, Notizbücher und Tonaufnahmen. In Interviews bietet er Bestandsaufnahmen aus dem engsten Umfeld von Amy Winehouse und lässt Menschen zu Wort kommen, die direkten Einfluss auf ihr Glück, ihre Erfolge, aber auch ihr Scheitern hatten. Immer wieder gelingt es Kapadia, konkrete Verbindungen zwischen den persönlichen Erlebnissen und den unverwechselbaren Songs der Soul-Sängerin herzustellen.
