Im Februar 1945 fand das zweite von insgesamt drei Gipfeltreffen während des Zweiten Weltkrieges zwischen den "Großen Drei" Roosevelt, Churchill und Stalin statt. Verhandelt wurde dabei unter anderem die Aufteilung Deutschlands nach Ende des Krieges.
Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges prophezeite Hitler der Wehrmacht, dass sie eines Tages durch die russische Hauptstadt marschieren würden. Am 17. Juli 1944 sorgte Stalin für die Einhaltung dieses Versprechens, indem er etwa 60.000 gefangene deutsche Soldaten öffentlich in Moskau zur Schau stellte.
