Feuerwerk erhellt den Nachthimmel über London, und so bleibt die Ankunft eines ausserirdischen Besuchers unbemerkt - vorerst. Sam (Jodie Whittaker) hat sowieso andere Probleme: Moses (John Boyega) und seine Kumpels, Jugendliche aus dem Sozialbau-Getto, bedrohen die Krankenpflegerin mit einem Messer und knöpfen ihr das Handy, die Handtasche sowie einen Ring ab. Dann jedoch kracht etwas durch das Dach eines parkierten Autos und weckt die Aufmerksamkeit von Moses' Clique, ein Monster aus dem All, mit dem die Gettokids kurzen Prozess machen. Von Dealer Ron (Nick Frost) erhoffen sie sich Rat, wie sie ihren Fund in bare Münze umwandeln können. Noch können sie sich nicht vorstellen, dass es sich bei der Kreatur lediglich um einen Vorboten handelt. Wenig später kämpfen Moses und seine Freunde Seite an Seite mit Krankenpflegerin Sam ums Überleben - und um die Vorherrschaft ihres heruntergekommenen Viertels gegen ausserirdische Invasoren.

Hintergrund: Von den Produzenten von "Shaun of the Dead" und "Hot Fuzz". Regisseur Joe Cornish interviewte mehrere Gruppen junger Leute, um herauszufinden, welche Waffen sie bei einer Invasion von Außerirdischen benutzen würden. Eines der interviewten Mädchen antwortete auf die Frage, was sie über eine der Kreaturen denken würde, wenn sie so eine finden würde: "Ich würde sie nicht anfassen, ich möchte ja keine Chlamydien kriegen." Dieser Satz ging, wie viele andere der Jugendlichen übrigens auch, gleich direkt ins Script ein. Die Filmemacher setzten CG-Effekte nur ein, wenn es absolut nötig war. Die Idee zu diesem Streifen hatte Cornish, nachdem er eines Nachts ausgeraubt worden war - ähnlich wie seine Figur Sam im Film. Er stellte fest, dass seine fünf Angreifer genauso ängstlich waren wie er selbst und begann ihr Leben zu recherchieren. Den Charakter Brewis, gespielt von Luke Treadaway, hat er an sich selbst angelehnt, als er in seinen 20ern war. Kritik: "'Attack The Block' atmet düsteres Londoner Lokalkolorit, bedient sich authentisch des expliziten Jugendslangs britischer Großstadt-Teenager und wird dabei von aggressiven Hip-Hop-Beats nach vorn gepeitscht. Man muss kein großer Prophet sein, um vorauszusehen, wie sich der kollektive Fight gegen die Aliens und die Geschichte zwischen den rebellierenden Teenagern, der verunsicherten Krankenschwester Sam und dem über Leichen gehenden Hobbyrapper Hi-Hatz (Jumayn Hunter, ‚Eden Lake') entwickelt, dennoch macht Joe Cornishs Genre-Mix aus knallharter Action-Komödie und furiosem Science-Fiction-Gemetzel einfach einen Heidenspaß. Das schwungvolle Debüt des Briten entpuppt sich schnell als spannendes und sympathisches Alien-Spektakel, das vor allem in der britischen Originalversion als waschechter Geheimtipp […] gelten darf und sich vor […] Alien-Blockbustern wie ‚Transformers 3' oder ‚Super 8' in Sachen Unterhaltungswert wahrlich nicht verstecken muss." (filmstarts.de) "Der Film ist rasantes, manchmal etwas ausgeklügeltes Genrekino zwischen Fun und Gesellschaftskritik. Cornish kennt die Horrortradition ganz genau. So ist der Tower wohl nach John Wyndham benannt, dem britischen Schriftsteller der Apokalypse. Was aber viel wichtiger ist: Cornish variiert das Traumpaar des Horrorfilms seit 1968: Moses und Sam sind nicht nur ein farbiger Mann und eine tatkräftige weiße Frau. Sie unterscheiden sich auch durch Alter und Klassenzugehörigkeit. Zweifellos ein schönes, schlagkräftiges Paar."
