Wendy wird von ihrem Vater zurechtgewiesen, dass es endlich Zeit wird, erwachsen zu werden: sie soll aufhören, ihren Geschwistern das Märchen von Peter Pan zu erzählen, dem Jungen, der niemals erwachsen wird. Doch in dieser Nacht nimmt Peter Wendy und ihre Brüder mit auf eine fantastische Reise ins Nimmerland. Sie tauchen ein in die Welt der Träume, treffen auf wilde Indianer und bezaubernde Meerjungfrauen. Doch das größte Abenteuer steht ihnen noch bevor, als Peter Pan und Naseweis, die zauberhafteste Fee der Filmgeschichte, gegen Käpt'n Hook und seine räuberischen Piraten antreten müssen. Peter Pan, der Junge, der nicht erwachsen werden will, verbringt seine Zeit am liebsten auf der Phantasieinsel Nimmerland, wo er als Anführer der Verlorenen Jungen zahlreiche Abenteuer besteht. Eines Abends nimmt Peter seine Freundin Wendy mit auf die Reise in sein fernes Traumland.
Dort treffen sie nicht nur auf ihnen freundlich gesinnte Indianer und die eitle Elfe Naseweis, sondern auch auf böse Piraten und deren hinterlistigen Käpt'n Hook, der es ganz besonders auf seinen kleinen Widersacher im grasgrünen Kostüm abgesehen hat. Disneys Adaption von Sir James Barries Meisterwerk der Kinderliteratur ist auch Jahrzehnte nach ihrer Entstehung immer noch ein Meilenstein des Zeichentrickfilms.
