Als der junge Schriftsteller Kurt (Walter Giller) vom Fenster seines Verlegers aus zufällig die hübsche Sekretärin Lydia (Jana Brechová) erspäht, geht er kurz entschlossen zum Eroberungsangriff über: Nach einem ersten Abendessen folgen zärtliche Abende, an denen Kurt all seinen Charme aufbietet, um seiner "Prinzessin" zu gefallen. Das frisch verliebte Paar verbringt jede freie Minute miteinander, und eines Tages beschließen Kurt und Lydia, ihren Urlaub gemeinsam in Schweden zu verbringen - für beide die Erfüllung eines Lebenstraums. Bereits auf dem Fährschiff von Hamburg nach Stockholm sind sie bezaubert von der Schönheit des Meeres. In dem malerischen Schloss Gripsholm am Mälarsee finden sie ihr Traumziel: Die kommenden Tage verbringen Kurt und Lydia mit Wandern, Schwimmen, Lachen und Lieben. Eines Tages kündigt Kurts Freund Karlchen (Hanns Lothar) seinen Besuch an. Er ist ein lebenslustiger, humorvoller Mann, der schon bald ganz verliebt von der "Frau Freundin" seines Freundes schwärmt.

Aber Karl würde nie im Ernst daran denken, seinem Freund die Freundin streitig zu machen. Nach seiner Abreise kommt Lydias beste Freundin, die hübsche Billie (Nadja Tiller) zu Besuch. Für Kurt, der die Stunden mit "seinen" zwei Damen sichtlich genießt, ist die moderne Billie so etwas wie eine erfahrenere Variation seiner Freundin Lydia. Lydia spürt denn auch, dass Kurt sich ein wenig in Billie verliebt. Doch mit ihrer Reaktion hätte Kurt nicht gerechnet.
