Loretta Sage schreibt heiße Liebesromane. Model Alan ist ihr Coverheld, die ideale Verkörperung des heißblütigen Lovers Dash. Die Frauen liegen ihm zu Füßen. Nur Loretta nicht. Als es beide ungewollt in den Dschungel verschlägt, will Alan/Dash Loretta beweisen, dass er kein tumber Schönling ist. - Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum und Brad Pitt in einer Nebenrolle sind die Stars des rasanten Abenteuerfilms mit handfester Romantik.
Ihre Agentin Beth (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) zwingt Autorin Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) zu einem Promoauftritt in einem pink glitzernden Jumpsuit. Mit dabei: Model Alan (Channing Tatum), der auf den Covern von Lorettas Büchern als der von ihr erfundene Held Dash zu sehen ist. Dash ist ein Frauenschwarm und genießt das Leben, während Loretta sich nach dem Tod ihres Partners zurückgezogen hat. Auch die Romanreihe um Dash und Dr. Angela Lovemore, ihr eigenes Alter ego, möchte Loretta gerne einstellen. Doch es kommt anders.
Der exzentrische Milliardär Abigail Fairfax (Daniel Radcliffe) lässt Loretta auf eine vulkanische Atlantikinsel entführen. Sie soll ihm und seinen Schergen den Weg zu einem Schatz weisen, der Krone des Feuers. Dash folgt Loretta. Auch Jack Trainer (Brad Pitt) ist angereist, um die Widerspenstige in Pink zu retten. Doch dann fällt Jack aus und Loretta und Alan sind auf sich gestellt, stets verfolgt von Abigails Leuten. Gedreht wurde der Film in der Dominikanischen Republik.
Hauptdarstellerin Sandra Bullock ist auch eine der Produzentinnen. "Harry Potter" Daniel Radcliffe glänzt als besessener Schurke. Der Film ist eine gelungene Mischung aus Action, Situationskomik und einer Liebesgeschichte mit ironischen Untertönen. Brad Pitt wird mit zwei Zeilen des Songs "Far From Any Road" von The Handsome Family eingeführt. Wem die Melodie bekannt vorkommt - "Far from Any Road" ist der legendäre Titelsong der ersten Staffel "True Detective".
