Thriller

Tommy Lee Jones wird als alternder Detective mit einem dunklen Kapitel seiner Vergangenheit konfrontiert. Atmosphärisch dichter Thriller mit Starbesetzung. Während der Untersuchungen in einem Mordfall wird eine weitere Leiche entdeckt, die allerdings schon seit Jahrzehnten in den Sümpfen Louisianas liegt. Doch zur Überraschung der Ermittler gibt es einen Zusammenhang zwischen den beiden Toten. Der erfahrene Detective Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones) untersucht den Mord an einer jungen Frau, die offenbar einem Serienkiller zum Opfer gefallen ist. Nicht gerade erleichtert werden die Ermittlungen im Süden Louisianas durch die Tatsache, dass in der Stadt gerade ein großes Epos über den Bürgerkrieg gedreht wird.

Ausgerechnet Hollywoodstar Elrod Sykes (Peter Sarsgaard) macht den Polizisten auf eine weitere Leiche aufmerksam, die er zufällig entdeckt hat. Doch dieses Mal handelt es sich um einen farbigen Mann, dessen Körper anscheinend jahrzehntelang im Sumpf gelegen hat. Und dieser Tote weckt Erinnerungen bei Robicheaux. Obwohl es auf den ersten Blick mehr als unwahrscheinlich erscheint, vermutet der Detective, dass zwischen den so unterschiedlichen Fällen ein Zusammenhang besteht. Der Thriller "Mord in Louisiana" war die erste US-amerikanische Produktion des französischen Meisterregisseurs Bertrand Tavernier ("Der Saustall", "Um Mitternacht"). Die Handlung des Films beruht auf dem Bestseller "Im Schatten der Mangroven" von James Lee Burke.

Dessen Reihe um den 1987 ins Leben gerufenen Detective Dave Robicheaux umfasst mittlerweile 18 Bände. 1996 wurde mit "Mississippi Delta - Im Sumpf der Rache" bereits einer dieser Romane verfilmt, die Rolle des Polizisten übernahm damals Alec Baldwin. Dieses Mal wird der Protagonist von Tommy Lee Jones ("Men in Black, "Im Tal von Elah", "The Homesman") verkörpert. Der Charakterdarsteller war während seiner langen Karriere in den unterschiedlichsten Rollen zu sehen - und wusste stets zu überzeugen. Im Jahr 1994 wurde dies auch bei den Academy Awards gebührend honoriert: Für seine Nebenrolle als Harrison Fords Gegenspieler in "Auf der Flucht" wurde er mit dem Oscar ausgezeichnet. Mit "Auf der Jagd" folgte 1998 ein Sequel, das man dem Schauspieler und seinem Filmcharakter eigens auf den Leib geschrieben hatte.

Der Franzose Bertrand Tavernier hat mehr als einmal eine klassische Kriminalbuchvorlage für die große Leinwand adaptiert. Hier ist es James Lee Burkes Roman "Im Schatten der Mangroven" (im Original: "In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead"). Für seinen ersten Spielfilm "Der Uhrmacher von St. Paul" wurde er 1974 mit dem Silbernen Bären sowie dem Louis-Delluc-Preis ausgezeichnet. Den größten Erfolg brachte ihm jedoch der Jazz-Film "Um Mitternacht" ein, der 1986 den Oscar für die beste Filmmusik (Herbie Hancock) gewann.
