Die Privatfehde zwischen Pfarrer Don Camillo (Terence Hill) und Bürgermeister Giuseppe Bottazzi, kurz "Peppone", nimmt kein Ende. Schon seit Jahren hauen sich die zwei Schlitzohren gegenseitig übers Ohr. Don Camillo missfällt die kommunistische Gesinnung Peppones, und der Bürgermeister will unter Beweis stellen, dass nur er in dem kleinen Ort in der Poebene das Sagen hat. Meist wird der Disput mit einem Faustkampf entschieden, oder durch ein Fußballspiel. Sollte Don Camillos Mannschaft ausnahmsweise eine Niederlage riskieren, besticht der Geistliche kurzerhand den Schiedsrichter. Nach jedem Vergehen und jeder noch so kleinen Sünde bittet Don Camillo vor dem Kruzifix in seiner Kirche reumütig um Vergebung.
Weniger nachsichtig als Jesus zeigt sich der Bischof, der den eigenwilligen Pfarrer schon lange strafversetzen möchte. Als Peppone bei einer Lotterie den Hauptgewinn zieht, steckt der kommunistische Bürgermeister in der Bredouille. Um das Geld heimlich zu kassieren, bittet er Don Camillo, die Prämie für ihn abzuholen. Aber der hat schon eine Idee, wie er seinem Erzfeind erneut eins auswischen kann. "Keiner haut wie Don Camillo", die actionreiche Fortsetzung der in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahre so beliebten Kinoreihe um Don Camillo und Peppone, wurde für Produzent, Regisseur und Hauptdarsteller Terence Hill zu einer Art Familienunternehmen. Ehefrau Lori verfasste das Drehbuch, Sohn Jess beteiligte sich als Stuntman, und Hills Adoptivsohn Ross spielt einen Spitzbuben.
Bemerkenswert auch die Beteiligung mehrerer berühmter italienischer Fußballprofis. Unter anderem wirken mit die Ex-Nationalspieler Carlo Ancelotti, Roberto Pruzzo und Roberto Boninsegna. Gedreht wurde nicht wie üblich in Brescello, sondern in dem Städtchen Pomponesco in der Provinz Mantua.

In "Keiner haut wie Don Camillo" beweist Terence Hill, dass er auch ohne seinen beliebten und beleibten Partner Bud Spencer das Publikum amüsieren kann. Von der Atmosphäre der Don Camillo-Klassiker bleibt nicht allzu viel übrig, aber mit swingendem Popsoundtrack und jeder Menge Action entwickelt das Remake, bei dem Terence Hill auch selbst Regie führte, eigene Unterhaltungsqualitäten.
