Familienfilm, Komödie

Maria Schreiber, Witwe, Mutter von drei Kindern und Besitzerin einer Gärtnerei, sieht ihre Existenz gefährdet. Der skrupellose Bauunternehmer Carsten Simon möchte auf ihrem und den angrenzenden Grundstücken ein modernes Einkaufszentrum errichten. Marias Nachbarn haben schon die Flucht vor dem bald drohenden Abriss ergriffen, doch die eigenwillige Gärtnerin hält mit ihren ebenso unbeugsamen Kindern weiterhin die Stellung. Marias Freundin Patrizia, die als Journalistin arbeitet, wittert in dem Vorgehen des Unternehmers Stoff für einen Artikel. Als der journalistische Stein ins Rollen kommt, gerät Carsten Simon in Zugzwang: Er bietet der Querulantin Maria ein Ersatzobjekt an. Einziger Haken: Marias neue Bleibe ist nicht sofort bezugsfähig.

Im Angesicht der aufmerksam gewordenen Presse, bietet der pfiffige Unternehmer Maria sogar an, für die Übergangszeit bei ihm einzuziehen. Gesagt getan: Tags darauf zieht Maria mit ihrer Familie und all ihren Pflanzen aus der Gärtnerei in die Villa Simons ein. Nachdem Carsten vor laufenden Kameras werbewirksam beim Einzug geholfen hat, beginnt ein Schlagabtausch, bei dem beide Seiten versuchen, die andere mürbe zu machen. Bei diesem Katz- und Maus-Spiel stellt sich immer mehr eine prickelnde Lust am Streit mit dem anderen heraus. Trotz anfänglicher Turbulenzen gibt es ein Happy-End, doch bis zu ihrem endgültigen Glück müssen die beiden noch einige Hindernisse überwinden.
