Das durchorganisierte Ehepaar Jason und Cynthia ist einander in Liebe zugetan, doch macht den beiden ein unerfüllter Kinderwunsch zu schaffen. Dringend benötigte Entspannung erhoffen sie sich in einem trendigen Pärchen-Ferienparadies. Weil Jason und Cynthia sich nur den Gruppentarif leisten können, überreden sie drei befreundete Paare zum Mitfliegen - angesichts des süssen Nichtstuns unter Palmen kein schwieriges Unterfangen.
Im Pazifik angekommen erwartet die vier Paare eine böse Überraschung. Wasserski, Windsurfen und all die anderen Vergnügungen stehen nur den Feriengästen auf dem für Singles reservierten Resortteil zur Verfügung. Pärchen hingegen werden vom Inselguru zu einem mehrtägigen Drill verknurrt, der neben Bewegungsübungen in der Gruppe auch zuhauf Sitzungen in Paartherapie enthält.
Während die Damen sich wenigstens noch am gestählten Körper des liebestollen Yogalehrers ergötzen, sind Jason und seine Freunde bald nur noch genervt. Verständlich, dass sie mit einem Ausbruch auf die andere Seite liebäugeln, wo Abend für Abend die Party steigt.
Jon Favreau ist als Regisseur der «Iron Man»-Filme und «The Jungle Book» bekannt, trat aber in weitaus mehr Produktionen als Darsteller in Erscheinung. Wie sein Freund Vince Vaughn übernahm er in «Couples Retreat» nicht nur eine der Hauptrollen, sondern verfasste dazu auch das Drehbuch. Gemeinsam mit Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, den Comedyspezialistinnen Malin Akerman und Kristen Bell sowie Kristin Davis (Charlotte aus «Sex and the City») und Nachwuchsstar Kali Hawk packte er die Koffer und verbrachte offensichtlich traumhafte Tage beim Dreh auf Bora Bora. Für Peter Billingsley, in den 1980er-Jahren ein Kinderstar, bedeutete «Couples Retreat» das Debüt als Regisseur eines abendfüllenden Spielfilms.

Um den perfekten Ort für den Dreh von 'All Inclusive', zu finden, reiste das Produktionsteam beinahe einmal um die ganze Welt: Es sah sich traumhafte Strände in Mexiko, der Karibik, Hawaii, auf den Bahamas oder Bali an. Fündig wurde das Team schließlich auf der Trauminsel Bora Bora im Süd-Pazifik. Dank des türkisfarbenen Wassers und strahlend weißer Sandstrände war mit Bora Bora und dem 3.600 Quadratmeter großen Fünf-Sterne-Hotel "St. Regis Bora Bora Ressort" die perfekte Location für das "Eden-Ressort" gefunden. Da auf Bora Bora sehr selten Dreharbeiten stattfinden, musste das Filmteam sämtliches Equipment per Flugzeug oder Schiff in die Südsee transportieren.
